The 2023 Edition of the AAR Manual of Standards and Recommended, Section N, Multi-Level Manual is now available. This Manual is the main source document for information concerning the shipment of motor vehicles by rail. The Manual includes specifications for multi-level autorack construction, certification, and specifications for component parts such as end doors, securement systems, bridge plates and related equipment. Appendix B, Mandatory Rules and Procedures for Operation and Billing of Maintenance Pools for Auto and Truck Loading on Multi-Level Flat Cars is also included. Appendix B describes and defines rules for origin pool charges and billing guidelines as well as guidelines for destination maintenance repairs to multi-level autoracks.
